George Bancroft Abbe (born 1911 Somers, Connecticut - 1989) was an American poet.

He graduated from the University of New Hampshire, in 1933, and the University of Iowa, in 1938.
He taught at Mount Holyoke College, Yale University, University of Connecticut, Wayne State University, Columbia University, University of Maine, Orono, Springfield College, Central Connecticut State College, Russell Sage College, State University of New York at Plattsburgh.[1]
His work appeared in Poetry Magazine,[2] He had tea with Sylvia Plath.[3]
A novel manuscript is at University of Iowa.[4] He corresponded with Nicholas Joost,[5] Judith Moffett,[6] and Stephen Vincent Benet,[7] and wrote a forward to his book Stephen Vincent Benét on writing.[8]
